It has been a great experience to record some of my tunes with these fantastic musicians accompanying me, including Milan Verbist, Wolf de Backer and Simon Van Brandt. I had a chance to record in a cozy studio owned by a pianist and sound engineer Jan Willems, who did a great job in making the end result ready.
I have been living and studying in The Netherlands and in Belgium, and gained some great experience in meeting new people during my journey, in concerts, jam sessions and during lessons. I’ve had a chance to study with greats like Wim Bronnenberg, Martijn van Iterson and Hendrik Braeckman, who have all given their great insight into the realm of jazz guitar.
These tunes have come as a source of inspiration from many images that I have seen inside my head. Like mental associations. That’s what my compositions are all about. My music still relies to the jazz tradition although it has modern vibes, many of my musical heroes jazzwise including John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock and Horace Silver can still be heard in some way through my compositions, at least I hope so. This album is called "Shades of Blue".
